Think of Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI) as Socially Responsible Investing with a Christian values application. It is the process of aligning investment portfolios with your values as a Bible believing Christian.
Maybe you have not thought about the fact that many of your investment holdings either produce and/or market products that go against your Christian convictions or support causes that do. Or maybe you just did not think there was anything you could do about this conundrum. Well, there is an option. You can align your investments with your beliefs.
Biblically Responsible Investing screens for companies engaged (manufacturing, sales, or activism) in pornography, tobacco, marijuana, human rights, gambling, abortion, LGBQT, persecution of Christians and other religious minorities, etc. The filtering process also looks for companies that support and fund causes such as “420” (the annual marijuana celebrations), sex reassignment surgery, pro-abortion activities, and more.
The Biblical Responsible Investing Institute has identified corporate violations of sixty or more activities that should be of concern to Christian investors. While Christian do not want to support these activities with their investment funds that does not mean we do not care about the individuals involved corporately or individually.
The goal is for Christian investors to be good and wise stewards with the money that God has entrusted them to manage. Not surprisingly, some companies have changed their activism and marketing based on pressure from BRI manager influence.
Christians do not have to sacrifice long-term returns to remove “bad companies” from their investment portfolio. The goal is not necessarily to outperform your current portfolio but obtain similar returns via portfolios aligned with your Christian beliefs and values.
We utilize a number of BRI Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s) and then overlay those ETF’s with tactical modeling. The best of both worlds.
